I logged into facebook so confused the other day because of everyone changing thier pictures to a lame cartoons from when were kids.
The reason for the cartoons was according to this mass status "Change your FB profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood. The goal? To not see a human face on FB till Monday, December 6th. Join the fight against child abuse & copy & paste to your status to invite your friends to do the same."
Because obviously changing your facebook picture helps fight child abuse? The logic behind this mind boggles me. How is your facebook profile picture going to do anything for anyone?
No one is going to donate money for each picture changed.
Some one who beats thier kid isn't going to look at your new profile picture of Minnie Mouse and think "wow I should put the lamp down and stop hitting little Johnny with it."
The cartoon pictures didn't make me more aware of child abuse. But they did make me aware of stupidity and herd mentality.
but it's December 6th and guess what? You're still seeing my human face on facebook because I'm a non-conformist asshole. I'm sure I am the sole reason that.... Wait was going to happen if there were no human faces on facebook today? Oh there were no stupid promises of what was going to happen today if there was nothing but cartoon profile pictures?
Is the soul of some abused child going to come to my house at midnight tonight because I didn't pass this along to 10 friends?
It's kind of like when a bunch of girls changed thier status to "I like it on the counter tee hee hee" or "I like it on my coffee table" etc. And essentially looked kind of skanky for breast cancer. Because where you said you liked it is where you put your purse? And that has to do with breast cancer? I'm not sure but lots of guys and me were like "oh wow so and so is a slut and now I know where she likes to do it. TMI". It didn't make me any more aware of breast cancer.
Basically after about a week of cartoon pictures and not being sure who is who I am not more aware of child abuse, but I am aware which of my friends like to piss me off and change thier pictures so I have no idea who they are when I see thier picture.
I love that the cartoon fad gave birth to the "pedophiles planned this facebook event" hoax. People have been posting that now, saying it's on the news. Who actually saw it? Oh that's right, no one. Just being lemmings!

I totally agree. If someone wants to start a meme where everyone changes their profile picture to a cartoon, fine. But relating it to child abuse? Americans are stupid. =P

lol i'm right there with you...i didn't change it because it was dumb. i made sure that my human face was all over my facebook page this entire time. not that i don't like cartoons and it was interesting to see who could come up with the most creative cartoon picture [because really...that was what it was all about]....but i'm not buying into these stupid stupid things people do on fb.
